Yusmarg Travel Guide: Exploring The "Meadow of Jesus"

Rolling hills of Yusmarg

Yusmarg is arguably the most underrated destination in Kashmir. Legend has it that Jesus once visited this valley, earning it the name "Meadow of Jesus." With acres of rolling green pastures and dense pine forests, it is arguably more scenic than Pahalgam for those who seek solitude.

Location & How to Reach

Yusmarg lies in the Budgam district, about 47km south of Srinagar.

  • Drive Time: Approx 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Road Condition: The road goes through Charar-i-Sharief and offers lovely countryside views.
  • Entry Fee: There is a small entry toll collected by the development authority (₹50-₹100).

Attractions in Yusmarg

  1. Doodhganga River: A short 20-minute downhill trek leads you to this fierce, frothing river. It's an ideal spot for photography and relaxing by the stones.
  2. The Meadows: Just sit! The vast meadows are perfect for letting kids run around or having a quiet picnic.
  3. Charar-i-Sharief Shrine: Visit the famous 600-year-old shrine of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani on your way back.

Nilnag Lake Trek
