Gurez is located about 123km from Srinagar in the Bandipora district. Situated at 8,000 ft, it is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The Kishanganga River flows through the valley, adding to its surreal beauty. The locals are "Dards" (Shins) who have a distinct culture and language.
How to Reach (The Journey)
Reaching Gurez is an adventure in itself.
- Route: Srinagar -> Bandipora -> Razdan Pass -> Gurez (Dawar).
- Razdan Pass: At 11,672 ft, this is one of the most dangerous yet scenic passes in Kashmir. The views are jaw-dropping.
- Time: It takes about 6-7 hours from Srinagar.

- Online Permit: Usually not required for Indian citizens now, only physical check at the post. Foreigners may need special permission.
- Best Time: June to September. The road is closed in winter due to heavy snow.
